GCC workers could face pay cuts up to 3%
NORTHEAST GLENDALE — Glendale Community College employees will likely be asked to accept an across-the-board pay cut of as much as 3% — depending on the severity of expected reductions in state education funding — to make up for the resulting budget shortfall, administrators said Thursday.
The college’s budget committee recommended the move early this month in anticipation of as much as $3.6 million in cuts as California lawmakers attempt to trim spending in order to close a $26-billion deficit, said interim President/Supt. Dawn Lindsay, a member of the committee.
A salary cut, which administrators are hoping can be reduced to just 1%, will allow the college to avoid other drastic measures to make up for the lost funding, including possible layoffs, fewer courses and the elimination of the winter intersession, Lindsay said.
