MIA mystery

July 20, 2009

On Friday I met with Adam Fletcher, a CVHS junior, who was working on his Eagle Scout project at Verdugo Hills Hospital a neglected MIA/POW plaque honoring Staff/Sgt. David Demmon a Missing In Action Vietnam soldier from Santa Monica. Adam spoke to members of both the American Legion, VFW and the hospital and no one knew anything about the memorial or the soldier it honored. I did find some military records that mentioned a Mr. and Mrs. Doren Roberts, the solidier’s sister and brother-in-law, lived in La Crescenta. When I google Doren Roberts a JPL site pops up with past missions but not much information beyond that. I am continuing to research with JPL on employee history. There is a re-dedication of the memorial planned for September. If anyone knows anything about this plaque, the soldier or his family please let me know. Adam, and I , would really like to solve this mystery.
