Rabble-rousing political blog closes

August 28, 2009

The Glendale Family Jewels blog — the bain of local officials with its inflammatory, anonymous posts — appears to have closed today.

Either that, or it’s moved to an as-yet unnamed location on the web. In the past year, the blog became a lightning rod for heated posts that many officials and politicos said did more to incite tensions than raise the level of discourse.

While it riled the anonymous masses like a gossip rag during the election, in recent months, the blog’s posts became few and far between.

Blogs are an important way for ordinary citizens to vent, opine and get/give information. That being said, I thought Glendale Family Jewels had an overly strident voice that did more to make people feel negatively rather than help foster positive change. I hope other, involved citizens, decide to add their voices to the blogosphere.

The passing of the Glendale family jewels is sad in some ways, because there is no local blog where people can comment on or publicize local political causes. My current cause is: Wish there were more serious forums where I could express political opinions.
