Medical marijuana on tonight’s council agenda…
No, the City Council will not be smoking pot at tonight’s meeting. But the medical marijuana issue will be coming to the dais.
The council is set tonight to introduce an urgency ordinance that would issue a 45-day moratorium on medical marijuana dispensaries in the city.
There are no dispensaries in city limits and they are not listed as allowed uses in city codes. But city officials proposed the moratorium in light of increased interest from potential pot sellers and the swirl of legal and political issues across the state surrounding the hot topic.
Those against the legal pot shops argue they lead to increased crime and illegal sales of the drug rather than help the ill as they are intended. Those in favor have been pointing to legalizing the drug as a solution to the state’s budget woes.

I’ll be at the council meeting tonight covering the issue, so be sure to check our Web site tonight for updates.
But more importantly, I’m interested in your thoughts on the issue. Should Glendale ban dispensaries? Welcome them with open arms? Something in between? What do you think? Post a comment here, and let me know.
