A different kind of swim class

July 21, 2009

Coming up on a future In the Classroom, we will be interviewing Paul Lennon (no relation to John, as far as I know) of the Adult Aquaphobia Swim Center.

Paul’s swimming classes are special because he specializes in teaching people to swim — people who are afraid of the water. He teaches those who are fine in the shallow end but are afraid of the deep end, to those who are afraid of both ends. The key, according to his website, is water temperature.

Paul rents the pool facilities at the Glendale YMCA, something he has done for the past 20 years. On Wednesday, I’ll be sitting down with him by telephone as he talks about his class.

The times and days of his classes are to be announced. He tells me that there are over 3,000 students on his e-mail distribution list.
